Drivers make direct payments from car

Drivers will soon be able to complete purchases, everything from smart parking meters to fuel pumps, directly from their vehicle’s central console.

Vehicles will connect with their owner’s bank card and make payments automatically for them.

The new service, offered by Visa, allows drivers to view and confirm payment with the touch of a button on the dashboard.

It could one day let people pay for petrol or order fast-food at a drive-through without the need to pull out their bank card.

Visa is working with some of the biggest car manufacturers in the world to develop the new system.

It is powered by Visa Token Service, which the financial firm says is a secure platform for mobile transactions.

Visa has so far partnered with Honda and Bentley on its ‘connected car’ project, but has said it hopes to work with a range of automotive firms in future, with agreements with other companies on the horizon.
