The old-fashion coin-operated parking meters will soon be a thing of the past.
Starting Friday, you will now have the option to pay cash or card.
The City of Elmira is using a kiosk system known as “multi-space pay stations” that accepts credit cards.
Two brand new meters were installed Friday morning in downtown Elmira.
The system uses a combination of coin-operated meters and time-limited parking.
“The way we’re moving, being able to pay with Google Pay or Apple Pay or paying by card just kind of modernizes it, so just kind of looking to modernize the infrastructure we have right now,” said Craig Southard, a senior engineer with the Elmira Department of Public Works, said.
The pay stations are being installed at the municipal lot near Roundin’ Third on West Water Street,
and the truck parking lot near the Water Street exit off Interstate 86.
